Find of the Week

Yet another Vamp treasure that is in store this week. Got freakishly excited about this find! Most headboards with attached sidetables are decidedly ugly and look like they come from a Russells furniture store. But for this I will make an exception. I know I would sleep alot better with is gorgeous headboard above my bed.

On Sunday I put some of the most delicious food in my belly from Cuvee at Simonsig wine farm. The best part about this restaurant is that for every dish there is an option of a full or half portion. Half portions range from R50 to R90. They encourage you to try as many as many dishes as your stomach will allow.

To start I had:
salad of beetroot, goats cheese and fresh cherries with aged balsamic vinegar
For my main:
grilled almond coated white fish with sweet carrots, lemon and nectarine butter
And for the all important dessert:
classic creme brulee scented with madagascan vanilla served with an almond biscuit

Other favourites at the table:
cape malay bobotie samosas with malmesbury yoghurt and antoinette malan’s muscat jam
fillet of pork with thyme and parsley crust and juniper blueberry butter
(I’m not a massive ‘pork person’ but apparently you have to order this if you’re a pork enthusiast)
Would be very happy to eat there every day for the rest of my life. Beautiful restaurant,  tasty food, lovely wine.. need I say more.

Vamp

Revamping old furniture to me is the ultimate form of recycling. I would much rather have an old piece full of cobwebs than a spanking new piece of furniture ‘made in china’. Vamp is a place where you can find such treasures. Located in an old church in Woodstock, Cape Town. Taking seemingly ordinary pieces of furniture and giving them a new lease on life. ‘Adopt’ (buy) one of these pieces that is in need of a fabulous home.

Smoke Rings, without the fire...

I’ve never been a big fan of smoke inhalation. But despite my dislike of smoking, I absolutely adore this milky grey nail polish aptly named ‘Smoke Rings’. It’s my colour of the moment. I’m a great supporter of Kangol nail polishes as they are slightly cheaper than the Essies and OPIs of the world at R49. Unless you’re an avid nail biter, it’s not very quick to chip or peel.  Truworths is the place where you can get your hands on this smoky colour.

MINK PINK

Finding new clothing brands in South Africa is a rare occurence. Mink Pink is one of the gems I found last week at Stuttafords. I 'heart' every item of clothing in their collection. Its not wildly pricey which is always a plus. With floral dresses and animal prints this brand is pretty with an edge!!

Famous faces such as the Kardashian sisters have donned this brand. A little bit 'hippie' and a little bit chic, how can you not love this brand. My new life goal is to own several items of Mink Pink clothing. Now to set about achieving my goal :)

A Yellow Hello

Staying true to my dirtbin (Durban) roots im an easy going, bunny-chow eating girl. Thats not to say I would touch crocs with a ten foot stick or leave the house wearing 'baggies' (a Durban favourite). Just a Kulula ride down to Cape Town and my mind was blown. Inspite of  Cape Town natives making fun of the way I say "fish" (pronouced fush), I was in my element. Now I consider myself an amalgamation of both Durbanite and Capetonian. My style, life and lusts now all have a distinct edge. I'm some what of a fashion junkie, often to the detriment of my bank account. If you're like me and enjoy the thrill of the hunt for that perfect bag or bargain but still enjoy being a couch potatoe, Welcome!
